Smith & Young, Certified Public Bookkeepers
Smith & Young (S&Y) is the nation's leading public bookkeeping firm providing cost-effective bookkeeping solutions. S&Y provides bookkeeping, QuickBooks, payroll, and tax services to individuals and small businesses throughout the United States. In addition, S&Y provides "back office" assistance to Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Certified Public Bookkeeper (CPB), and Enrolled Agent (EA) firms and other accounting, bookkeeping, and tax businesses.
SYU's bookkeeping career program involves the following organization, personnel, and responsibilities:
Support Staff,
Intern,
Paraprofessional,
Professional,
Manager, and
Partner.

Support Staff
Support staff are entry-level non-professional employees who demonstrate good social and communication skills and a desire to obtain bookkeeping knowledge, skills, and experience.
Support staff are required to complete SYU's Bookkeeping and QuickBooks Training and Certification Programs.
Support Staff obtain client bookkeeping information and print, bind, mail, and email client financial statements, reports, graphs, and additional reports. Support Staff work under the direct supervision of Paraprofessional employees.

Intern
Interns are temporary employees who have completed SYU's Bookkeeping and QuickBooks Training and Certification Programs and have applied and been accepted into the SYU Internship Program.
Interns enter client bookkeeping source documentation under the direct supervision of Professional employees.

Paraprofessional
Paraprofessional employees are former S&Y Support Staff employees or Interns who have developed entry-level bookkeeping knowledge, skills, and experience using QuickBooks and S&Y Bookkeeping Workflow Manager software under the direct training and supervision of a Paraprofessional employee. Paraprofessionals must possess NBA (National Bookkeepers Association) Bookkeeper Certification and QuickBooks Certification.
Paraprofessionals enter client bookkeeping source documentation and train and supervise Support Staff employees.

Professional
Professional employees are former S&Y Paraprofessional employees who have developed full-charge bookkeeping knowledge, skills, and experience using QuickBooks and S&Y Bookkeeping Workflow Manager software under the direct training and supervision of a Professional employee. Professionals must possess and maintain their NACPB (National Association of Certified Public Bookkeepers) Certified Public Bookkeeper (CPB) and Certified QuickBooks Advisor (CQA) licenses.
Professionals reconcile the bank and credit card accounts, maintain the general ledger, make account adjustments, prepare financial statements and reports, and train and supervise Paraprofessional employees and Interns.

Manager
Manager employees are former S&Y Professional employees who have developed full-charge bookkeeping knowledge, skills, and experience using QuickBooks and S&Y Bookkeeping Workflow Manager software under the direct training and supervision of a Manager and have demonstrated management potential. Managers must possess and maintain their NACPB Certified Public Bookkeeper (CPB) and Certified QuickBooks Advisor (CQA) licenses.
Managers must know and understand S&Y's practice policies, procedures, and technology and are responsible for the timeliness of the client's financial information, review client financial information for relevance and reliability, and train and supervise Professional employees.

Partner
Partner owners are former S&Y Manager employees who have developed knowledge, skills, and experience performing Manager responsibilities under the direct supervision of a Partner and have demonstrated partner potential. Partners must possess and maintain their NACPB Certified Public Bookkeeper (CPB) and Certified QuickBooks Advisor (CQA) licenses. Partners must also possess excellent social, communication, management, leadership, and client development knowledge, skills, and experience.
Partners must know and understand S&Y's bookkeeping methodology, policies, practices, procedures, and technology and are responsible for obtaining and retaining clients.
